Sunflowers will always have a special place in my heart for Japan, because our son was in the himawari (sunflower) class at his yochien.

And boy, are they spectacular.

The town of Zama in Japan does a pretty cool sunflower festival… that we’ve sadly missed every year in order to travel elsewhere.

So we just drive out there for the flowers… which is still totally worth it.

If you’re in Japan in August, I definitely recommend the drive to Zama, in the Kanagawa Prefecture. More information on their festival is here
