Where I Came From

I was born in Virginia and moved to Florida when I was four years old. I grew up stubborn, bookish, and sarcastic, and I like to think I haven’t changed much since.

In high school, I was your typical overachiever. At college I purposely did not overachieve, and still managed to somehow get a T-shirt when I graduated.

I worked in Orlando for a little while, lived downtown, loved my life.

At work, however, I was bored. So I started a magazine, but that didn’t challenge me either. Then I decided to move to LA – with no job, no contacts, and no real clue what I was doing – to try my hand at celebrity publicity. Luckily for me, that all worked out fine.

Then I met My Better Half (MBH), and we fell in love. And moved to Virginia and then to Japan.

And that’s where this story begins.

What part of Florida? When did you come to Japan? Tokyo?

I grew up in Florida, and have been living in Tokyo since 1990.

I was born in Mississippi, but my family moved to Florida when I was a little kid. I grew up in the Tampa Bay area.

But I haven’t been to America in a long time. I’ve lived in Japan my entire adult life…it has become home.

I like Yokohama! Did you see Chinese New Year at Yokohama Chinatown?
When did you come to Japan? How long will you stay?
